Bed rails
- used to keep patient from falling out of bed and assist in turning them
- if bed is raised, but healthcare provider is more than an arms length away in the room, rails must be raised
- should not be kept up without an order
Hospital/gatch bed
1) electric- operated by buttons electronically
2) manual- handled by cranks— middle crank that raises and lowers whole bed, left crank raises and lowers the top of the bed, and right crank raises and lowers the bottom of the bed
Bed side stand
Holds patients belongings and equipment
Water pitcher

Emesis basin
Used for vomit or spitting into
Bath basin
For bathing patients in bed
Bedpan
Used for make and female patients for solid waste and for female patients to urinate into
Fracture pan
Used for pediatric patients, patients in body cast or patients who ate extremely thin

Shaped like a bottle with a narrow neck, has numbers for measuring, male patients urinate into it

Fits over the bed
Adjusts in height
Used to let patients wash up and eat in bed
Screen
Used to provide privacy
Call light
- allow patients to call for assistance
- call light must be placed in patients hand and explained how it works
- answer all call lights right away
IV pole
Used to attached IV pumps and hang IV solution
Commode
Looks like a toilet with a removable basin
Allows patient to sit up and go to the bathroom without walking to the bathroom
Shower chair
Water resistant chair or bench
Provides a place for patients to sit while in the shower
