nurs 220L- oxygen delivery Flashcards
Face mask/ tent
40-60%
Nasal cannula fio2
1-6L (4% perL)
Venturi mask
24-60%, most precise
Partial NR
40-70%, no inspiratory valve
Non-rebreather
60-80%, highest %; minimum flow of 10L/ min
Ambu bag
15L
Tents/hoods
28-85%, peds
Nasal cannula +
Safe, simple, low conc while allowing to speak, eat, drink, disposable
Nasal cannula -
Can’t use if nasal obstruction, drying to mucus membranes, can dislodge easily, bad for mouth breathers, patient breathing affects FIO2
Face mask +
Assists in providing humidified O2
Face mask -
Exact FIO2 difficult to estimate, requires high FIO2 levels at 5L + to prevent rebreathing of CO2, patient inhales room air via side holes, difficult to speak, eat or drink
Partial nonrebreather with a reservoir bag +
O2 flow supplied to maintain reservoir bag at least 1/3 to 1/2 on full inspiration
Partial nonrebreather -
Possible pressure areas/ skin irritation with long term use, difficult to eat, drink, talk; need to check frequently to ensure bag inflated
Nonrebreather with reservoir bag +
Valve between bag and mask to prevent exhaled air from returning to bag
Nonrebreather -
Possible pressure areas/ skin irritation; difficult to eat, speak, drink
