Nuerological assesment Flashcards
1
Q
What is the nervous system
A
- Monitor internal and external enviroment
- Intergrates sensory information
- Cordinates response (voluntary/Involuntary) of many organ systems
2
Q
What are the two sub divisions of the nervous system
A
- CNS - Consisting of the brain + Spinal Cord
- Peripheral Nervous System - Parts of the nervous system that lie outside of the brainand spinal cord
3
Q
How do the CNS and PNS link with each other
A
- Receptors - Somatic (monitor outside world) and Visceral (monitor internal conditions) detect sensory infromtaion
- Information transmitted by AFFERENT DIVISION of the PNS
- CNS porccesses information
- Motor command transmitted by EFFERENT DIVISION of PNS either SOMATIC Voulantary movement (Skeletal muscle) or AUTOMONIC Invoulantary (smooth,cardiac,glands,adipose tissue)
- Autominic can be subdivided into Parasympathetic or Sympathetic
4
Q
Detail the sub divisions of the Autonmic Nervous System
A
Sympathetic - Rest/Digest
Stimulates and mobalises energy resources e.g. Increase:
* Heart
* Blood Pressure
* Sweat secretion
Parasympathetic - Fight/Flight
Conserves energy
e.g.
* Decrease Heart rate
* Increae Digestion
* Increase salavation
5
Q
What is a Dermatome
A
Area of skin supplied by a single nerve
6
Q
Label the nerves of the foot

7
Q
label the nerves of the lower leg anterior view
A
8
Q
Label the nerves of the lower leg posterior
A
