Nucleus Flashcards
What are the components of the nucleus?
Nucleolus, nuclear pores, nuclear envelope and nucleoplasm
What does the nucleoplasm contain?
Chromatin
What do the nuclear pores do?
Allow the entry of nucleotides (for DNA replication) and the exit of molecules like mRNA during photosynthesis
What are nuclear pores plugged with?
An RNA/protein complex
What does nucleoplasm contain?
Chromatin and nucleoli
What is chromatin made of?
DNA and associated proteins
What do chromatin granules do?
Condense to form chromosomes during cell division
What five things does nucleoli produce?
Ribosomes, coenzymes, nucleotides, proteins and RNA molecules
What does the nuclear envelope do?
Encloses and protects the DNA
What is the outer membrane of the nuclear envelope like?
Continuous with the rough endoplasmic reticulum membranes
What is the function or the outer membrane of the nuclear envelope?
It makes the perinuclear space continues with the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum, allow easy transport of substances
