Q

what is Down Syndrome:

A

extra copy of chromosome 21
causing a form of mental retardation;

Normal 21: II-shaped (2 chromatids)

Down Syndrome 21: III-shaped (3 chromatids)

Q

what is Good/Beneficial:

A

helps an organism to
better adapt to its environment;

16
Q

what is Mutations and Sexual Reproduction

A

(meiotic crossover) produces the variation
(variety) seen in sexually reproducing
species.

17
Q

what is Variation

A

allows a species to best adapt

to a rapidly changing environment thereby
increasing chance of survival.

18
Q

what is Interesting FACT

A

In laboratory experiments, most mutations
are either neutral (= no effect on the
organism) or delterious (= harmful to the
organism). Rarely, are mutations beneficial
to the organisms. In these rare cases, they
are found to be SNP’s (= Single Nucleotide
Polymorphism) type mutations.

19
Q

what is DN:

A

Review Lab Notes

20
Q

what is OBJ:

A

Given lab SWBAT compare the main characteristics of
mitosis to meiosis with 80% accuracy.

21
Q

what is ACT:

A

Review Lab Procedures (color pencils);
Work on Mitosis & Meiosis Lab
