Nuclear Flashcards

1
Q

Describe nuclear fission process.

A

Neutron is fired at uranium which splits the uranium and releases vast amount of energy and other neutrons. Further neutrons are released and then create more reactions which in turn create more energy in the form of heat.

Q

Describe the key disadvantages of nuclear power.

A
  • Creates nuclear waste which is very dangerous to life and is very hard to expose of.
  • Dangerous - If accidents occur it can be extremely dangerous to extremely large areas (Chernobyl).
  • Nuclear reactors cannot be sustained endlessly and must be decommissioned after max 30-40 years. Even after she down it takes up to 100 years to decommission.
