NSI 4 Flashcards
What is the title of NSI 4?
Work on or near to HV OHL
What is NSI 4 about?
Provides guidance when trying to achieve safety from the system for personnel working on 275/400KV OHL’s, including terminal towers and earthwires. It doesnt cover 132KV work, Live work or cellular, it is the equivalent of an ACOP in law.
What is a complex circuit?
A dead circuit that has two or more circuits inducing current into it.
What are the dangers in NSI 4?
Electric shock and burns.
What are the sections of NSI 4?
Standard requirements, Application and removal of drain earths, Dress schemes, maintenance schemes, stringing phase conductors, stringing earthwires, fibre wrap, additional guidance, appendices, forms and authorisation matrices.
Prior to the issue of a safety document what condition must exist?
Primary earths applied line side of POI, no disconnections.
What must you do to a complex cct, before working on it?
Make it simple
Where drain earths are required on a terminal tower, what is the minimum requirement?
Single dress.
What do you need to do when working within 5 towers of the terminal tower?
Check the earth tape is intact
What is the minimum size working party for working at height?
CP and a P
What do you need when working on downleads and down droppers?
A separate dedicated PFW
What shall the CP do prior to starting work?
Check the tower ID is effective prior to starting work.
What do you need to apply an earth?
A type registered earthing pole.
How do you know what earthing scheme to use?
NSI 4 flow chart
What must be carried out prior to any work taking place?
Suitable risk assessment
If safety distance may be infringed as part of the work, what safety document would you work under?
PFW
What shall the recipient of the safety document confirm on issue/transfer?
Circuit ID complies with the tech data sheet(s)
