What is Enteral Nutrition?

What is Parenteral Nutrition?

Includes : TPN(long term in a central vein) and PPN (short term in a peripheral central vein)
Goal of TPN/PPN
To meet nutritonal requirements to allow for growth of new body tissues when a person cannot ingest food through the mouth.
Indications for need of TPN
If person canonot tolerate anything PO
If person is NPO for a long time
If bowel rest is required
Ex: Bowel obstruction.
If having severe prolonged diarrhea.
Routes of Administration
IV through:
- CVAD
- PICC

If they had gallbladder issues. (b/c gall bladder stores bile that the liver produces)
