NSAIDs Flashcards
What is COX 1 thought to regulate?
Constitutive prostaglandins: control of homeostasis, protective effects on gastric mucosa, platelet function, renal blood flow
Aspirin COX function?
COX 1 (Metabolite salicyclic acid is COX 1&2)
What is COX 2 thought to regulate?
Inducible prostaglandins: Pain, Inflammation, Fever
Phenylbutazone COX function?
Cox 1&2 (but is old and has the most GI side effects)
Ketoprofen COX function?
Preference for Cox1 (0.32 ratio) + Bradykinin inhibitor + inhibits some lipooxygenase pathways
Flunixin COX functions?
Cox 1&2 (less GI side effects)
Carprofen (Rimidyl) Cox function?
Slight Cox 2 preference (1.75-12 ratio) + PA2 inhibition
Meloxicam Cox function?
Slight Cox 2 preference (2.75-12 ratio) + inhibits PG2 synthesis
Deracoxib (Deramaxx) Cox function?
Cox 2 preference (12-37 ratio)
Fibrocoxib (Previcox) Cox function?
High Cox 2 preference (384 ratio)
Robenacoxib (Onsior) Cox function?
Cox 2 preference
Tepoxalin Cox function?
COX 1&2 + LOX (to reduce GI signs)
Piroxicam inhibitory function?
Prostaglandin inhibitor
Is Aspirin approved for use in animals?
No, only in humans
Aspirin side effects?
Irreversible binding to platelet COX 1 = inability for platelets to aggregate
