A

S/S relief of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain and dysmenorrhea: 100-200mg 1-2x/day

Celecoxib mechanism

A

inhibits COX-2 to produce anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects
little to no effect on COX-1 at therapeutic doses

Celecoxib drug interactions

A

may decrease effectiveness of ACE-I’s
may increase plasma lithium level
fluconazole increases plasma levels
inhibits 2C9, caution with drugs metabolized this way, esp WARFARIN

Celecoxib CI/precautions

A

CI: asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after sulfonamides, aspirin, or other NSAIDs, for treatment of peri-operative pain in CABG
may increase risk of serious CV thrombotic events, MI, stroke
Extreme caution in patients with history of ulcer disease or GI bleeding
Rare cases of GI bleeding
Avoid use in patients with advanced renal disease
