NSAIDS Flashcards

1
Q

Diclofenac (Drac)

A

Mechanism of Action: non-selective. Inhibits COX1 & COX2 which prevents the conversion of arachidonic acid to PG2 which is a precursor of PG. PG is responsible for pain and inflammation

Q

Aspirin (A Plate)

A

Mechanism of Action: Acetylsalicylic acid is non-selective for COX1 and COX2. The inhibition of COX1 leads to the inhibition of platelet aggregation. Also the acetyl group of acetylsalicylic acid binds with the serine residue in COX1 which leads to irreversible inhibition. This prevents prostaglandin production
