NRVs Flashcards
What are NRVs?
A set of recommendations for nutritional intake based on current available scientific knowledge.
What are the 4 NRVs?
Recommended Daily Intake (RDI)
Estimated Average Requirements (EAR)
Average Intake (AI)
Upper Level of Intake (UL)
Whats an RDI?
Recommended Daily Intake - average daily intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirement of nearly all healthy individuals in a particular life staage and gender group.
Whats an EAR?
Esimated Average Requirements - daily nutrient level estimated to reach the requirements of half the healthy individuals in a particular life stage and gender group.
Whats an AI?
Average Intake - average daily nutrient intake level based on observed or experimentally determined approximations of a group of apparently healthy people. Used when RDI cannot be determined.
Whats a UL?
Upper Level of Intake - highest average daily nutrient intake level likely to pose no adverse health effects to almost all individuals in the general population.
Are the following for groups or individuals:
- EARs
- RDI/AIs
EARs - Groups
RDI/AIs - Individuals
