NRP Flashcards
1
Q
Initial Steps of Resuscitation
A
- Provide Warmth
- Dry – remove wet linens
- Stimulate
- Position head and neck to open airway
- Clear Secretions if needed
▪Only if baby isn’t breathing, gasping, has poor tone, or if
secretions obstructing airway, or if you anticipate needing
PPV
▪Gently suction mouth then nose
2
Q
Flow inflating bag
A
▪Can deliver a 100% if needed ▪Easy to determine if there is a seal ▪Stiffness of the lungs can be felt ▪Can deliver O2 via blow-by ▪Requires a tight seal ▪Requires a gas source ▪Not all flow-inflating bags have a pop- off
3
Q
How to provide flow by
A
Do not use Self inflating bag
4
Q
Sp02 preductal target ranges
A
1 min - 60-65% 2 min - 65-70% 3 min - 70-75% 4 min - 75-80% 5 min - 80-85% 10 min - 85-95%
5
Q
ETT size based on age/gestation
A
- Below 1000g/28 weeks = 2.5mm
- 1000-2000g/28-34 weeks = 3.0mm
- Greater than 2000g/Greater than 34 = 3.5mm
6
Q
Fi02
A
- Start with Room Air
- O2 is necessary start at 30% using a blender
7
Q
BVM
A
▪Will always refill, even without a gas source ▪Has pressure relief pop-off valve (pre-set 40 cwp). ▪Not as easy to determine if you have a good seal ▪Requires a reservoir to deliver ~100% ▪Cannot deliver blow-by O2
8
Q
T-piece
A
▪S/U with blender
▪Start with room air and
increase O2 when indicated
by SpO2
9
Q
Steps to PPV
A
▪Clear Airway ▪Position yourself at HOB ▪Position baby’s head and neck ▪Neural or sniffing position ▪Properly position mask to face ▪Two shapes – round or anatomically shaped ▪One or two hand techniques
