What are two ways to create a link to page block

A
  1. Go to where you want the link to page: put in /link; a search prompt shows options; choose one.
  2. Copy the URL of a page (command L) (Command C)
    Then go to where you want to paste this linktopage block and paste the URL. Of 3 options, choose link to page (or mention for inline block). Note: linktopage blocks show up in sidebar.

Why might you want to use an inline linktopage block

A

1) If you don’t want the linktopage block to show up in side bar–you don’t want, say, the clutter
2) If you want the linktopage block in a line of text, (not to have its whole block be a link to page) and then surrounded by other text. And in this case, you might want a link and to mention the page, but not to have the page live within the page you are on.

  2. In sidebar, click “+” next to any existing page for a subpage

How to create a subpage without using the sidebar?

A
  1. /page (This will take a full line because it will be a pageblock)
    This option has a benefit of being able to be turned into a heading or toggle so that you can see the info on the page transformed into text
  2. ”+” will give a subpage (within the page it is in or that lives elsewhere) within a line of text. This option cannot take part of the cool option of being turned into a heading or toggle. However, it will not take up a full line. This option is inline, so text can come before and after it, and it will be part of a text block

A

A pageblock has the cool functionality of being able to turn the page intosomething else, say a heading or toggle–anything without blocks within it.

What is a limitation of inline data bases when it comes to multi-column layout?

A

You can’t just drag an inline data base to make a mult-column layout. The work around is to make a line of text called “dummy” and drag that text block for a multi-column. Then drag the inline database block underneath that “Dummy” and then erase “dummy.”

A

A Quick link can allow you to have pageblock links that will show up in the sidebar. This is the advantage!

Databases, and pages within them, will not show up in sidebar. Only views of database show up in sidebar.

A

select all the blocks and cut with command x
you will get template options once again
so, stuff is safe on clipboard
then make toggle, script, and paste

When would you want to put a page link into a template?

A

You could go to the /template button and put in a new page or a link to page. For example, the name of button might be “Generate filming checklist” Then can put in link to page (to Master Filming Checklist (which lives in WIKI and can be updated). If you click THIS one: You actually get a COPY of that checklist. This is useful because if you update the WIKI version, it will show up when you click this button from a template.

Can make another template button inside a template. ie named “link to filming checklist” and instead of link for link block, use double bracket syntax to create a link to Master Filming Checklist. Clicking this gives me a LINK to filming checklist. See the link. If you click it you are back to Master Filming Checklist.

How do I get a default task list pop up in any new project? (Say a video checklist to pop up in tasks of new video project)

A

Make a synced block with the video checklist. Paste it right below the task list. Each new project, open synced block and drag checklist into task list. Click and drag to select all tasks, then hold Option/Alt or OPTION on Mac OS then drag the group into all task table above. This makes a copy of them. I don’t remove the sorting

What is a notion notebook?

A

These notebooks are actually databases, each of which contains many different notes.

These notes have a status and a category.

Status is important for status dashboard (open, urgent, archived)

You can sort into custom views, which kind of filters based on its category. You could sort just by production notes, or just by song notes.

In a notebook click new.

In inbox click new –then later can review notes and drag them into the right notebook.

What is the status dashboard?

A

The status dashboard shows all open and urgent notes across your notebooks. It uses notion’s linked database feature which essentially lets you see the database even if you are not on the page with that data base.

A

If you edit–you change the actual database!
However, you can make your own views with your own sorts and filters. Custom views, custom sorts, and won’t affect parent database.

You can build sub notebooks out in a notebook.

A

A lot of the work in building a notebook is already done because the templates are all set up. Make New notebook, ie DIY. You already have views set up that don’t require editing. But you will want to edit “Category 1” view. So make a test note, and it will show up, and rename the catogory 1 to “woodworking.” So this “note” will become my “woodworking notebook.” And I will come into views of DYI, where says Category 1” and rename that to wood working as well. So this will be my woodworking notebook. I will add a filter that says category is woodworking. So any note **tagged with woodworking” will be in this woodworking notebook.

Creating additional category based notebooks

A

Once you have made the say woodworking notebook (see subnotebook) is to duplicate this view (of woodworking) and rename it to whatever category, say metalworking. Go to three dots near woodworking view and duplicate. Add a category for metalworking and change filter criteria to metalworking
So you add subnotebooks withing parents, and categories expand and then you add a filter to the duplicated notebook.

Its work to initially set up those subnotebooks, but then no more maintenance work.

Then just need to add new notebook to status dashboard
