What are the special sensory, general sensory, and parasympathetic innervations of the nasal cavity.
Special sensory: Olfactory nerve for smell.
General sensory: Opthalmic (nasociliary) and maxillary divisions of the trigeminal > respiratory mucosa
Parasympathetic: coming from the greater petrosal of the facial nerve going to the pterygopalatine ganglion jumping on the maxillary division and stimulating production of mucous.
What is the blood supply to the nasal cavity?
epistaxis is?
Anterior:
- opthalmic artery (branch of internal carotid)
- facial artery (branch of external carotid)
Posterior:
-Sphenopalatine artery (maxillary artery) —external carotid (primary blood supply)
Which meatus do each of these sinuses drain into?
Frontal, maxillary, ethmoid, sphenoid, nasolacrimal duct.
Frontal Sinus: Middle meatus
Which pharyngeal arch forms the styloid process?
Arch 3
What opening in the skull does the trigeminal nerve and its branches NOT pass through?
Foramen lacerum.
Which nerve is most vulnerable during a thyroidectomy?
The recurrent laryngeal nerve.
