Because of all of the trees and the poor soil. Almost all the land was covered in trees.

They developed a lumber business for ship building.
List four things the Northern Colonies exported to England.
Slaves, fish, sugar & molasses.
What did women do in the Northern Colonies?
They cooked, cleaned, raised vegetables, made clothing, candles and soap. They also raised and educated their children.
What did men do in the Northern Colonies?
They hunted, farmed and were craftsmen. They also built ships and traded.
What did parents teach their children in the Northern Colonies?
The skills they would need in life.

No! They were too busy working.
