Q

framing insdie as the go from side to north/south

what are the steps to the north/south transition escape?

A

starting from side control bottom we need:
- our forearm frame on the hip as always and our bicep cross face arm ready to move
- as we see our opponent bring his crossfacing arm overour head to move into the reverse crossface wedge, we anticipte this and pummel our bicep crossfce hand underneath his armpit so both our arms are framing agasint his torso/ribs close to our chest
- our second hand moves from the hip and closer to our cheast so as he moves around towards the north/south poisiton we have forearm frames to create space as he moves around
- now as he gets to the north/south position we have oppurtunities to use our foreamrs to push/frame into him and bring our knee to our crossfacing elbow inftont of his chest as a v-frame, to perform an overhead elbow escape sort of thing
- and other other leg (the side of our hip frame elbow) the knee goes to his shoulder with the intent on using ths leg as a hook to scissor agasint his shoulder/head
- its this scissor ‘guard’ (our one leg over his shoulder/neck and our other foot that we used as a v-frame, with the foot on his other side, that allows us to follow him as he tries to move around us, and we can now get grips and realign to put him back in guard

Q

bridge to elbow escape at the opponent’s collar bones

what are the steps to the double-over north/south escape?

A

we start in the bottom of north/south with our opponent’s arms over the top of both of our elbows/arms and holding onto our waste (probably has a belt grip in gi). from here we :
- bring both our feet in close to our buttocks
- we start with the action of a brige which then transtions into the action of our two elbows rising.
- so we perform our tow footed bridge and use the momentum of the bridge to push wiht our two elbow into our opponent to create space
- now holding him there with our elbow frames, our hips can come back down to the mat
- now we shoot our knees up towards his hed, one knee goes inside, underneath the opponen’ts head, connecting to our one elbow
- the other knee goes over the opponent’s head so we create the ‘scissor guard’
- when our opponent inveitably tries to pressure into us we can use the scissoring motion of our legs to realign with him, push him away using our frames and legs
- go back to guard

Q

knee escape variation

what are the steps to the double under north/south escape, where our opponents arms are underneath our arms?

A

first thing we need to do is from an effective connection to the opponent, we can either get a gri on his belt if its in the gi or we can use thumb posts inside his hip bones no gi. then we
- we must make sure we have effective grips (stated above) but we cant be satisfied with these grips if we have bent arms, the rest of the move wont work with bent arms so we:
- frame and push against his hips with our grips/frames as we use a kipping action with our legs to pendulum/jackknife from side to side, creating more and more distance as we do so, we should now have more elongated arms and our head is now further away from his hips
- now with a pendulum to the side we throw our legs to one side so we are now side on facing our opponent with distance inbetween us
- now we can thread our top arm underneath our opponent (while still framing with our other hand on his waist/belt
- and our top hand can reach around the back of his leg and get the single-leg grip
- we now hesit up to our knees, and our other waist-frame hand can post out on the mat for stability
- our opponent will now want to square up and sprawl out but** we keep our head high** to prevent this as we push into him with the head
- now we can use our base hand to pull his foot out from underneath him on his trapped single leg
- and take him down to the mat
- immediately cover the hips and go into pinning/passing

Q

What are the steps to the elbow escape variation from double-under north/south position?

A

we get our connections on our opponent - either belt grip in gi or thumb posts inside hip in no gi then we :
- use the kipping action as we push/frame against his hips to jack-knife our body side to side, like a pendulum untill our amrs are extended and stiff arming against our opponent and we have created space between our shoulders and the opponents hips
- we should now be on our one side facing the opponents hips
- from here we use our top arm as a post arm to stop our opponent from walking around behind our back
- our bottom arm bends in toward our waist like in a back heist
- now we cant elbow escape from here becasue his bottom arm is blocking us from getting a knee in
- so we back heist up to our knees
- now we have made space to slide our bottom knee insdie his arm to our elbow
- then we slide the same knee to his hip pocket
- get limbs back insdie and gain the insdie real estate
- put the opponent back in guard

Q

with the elbow escape- spider guard variation

how do we escape the over-under north south pin?

A

when an opponent has is in an over-under north south pin, we can use a sort of spider-guard action to help us elbow escape:
- we jacknife/pendulum over onto our side (on the opponent’s overhook side)
- then we elbow escape inside his arm, bringing our knee inside his arm to connect to our elbow
- once our knee is inside his bicep we can grip the cuff of that arm and now we can use our leg with the spider guard action of dragging him down away from north south more to a side on position, moving his body down our body
-once his body is down towards our hips we can frame with both hands on his near side hip and bring our knee inside and elbow escape back to guard
