Areas of upland have lots more rain because..

A

Prevailing winds bring warm, moist air and it is forced to rise over high areas. As it rises, it cools and condenses into water vapour. Clouds form and it precipitates as rain. Air descends and warms again causing the rain to stop. The downwind side of the high area remains dry.
