Where is the Willamette Valley situated?
To the west of the Cascade Mountains. It has a moderate climate, cooled by the Pacific Ocean.
It’s known for ripe, high acid Pinot Noir, also Pinot Gris.
Where are grapes widely grown in Oregon, besides the Willamette Valley?
Southern Oregon, which include Rogue Valley, Umpqua Valley, and others. Warmer than Willamette, moderated by altitude, able to grow a variety of cool and warm climate grapes.
Where are grapes primarily grown in Washington?
To the east of the Cascade Mountains, in the extensive Columbia Valley, which includes Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The rain shadow effect makes irrigation a must, and winter freeze is a problem.
What are the Finger Lakes known for?
Perfumed Riesling, also Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The deep glacial lakes store heat into November and extend the growing season.
