Normative vs. Idiogrpahic Development Flashcards
What is Normative?
Normative development refers to the typical patterns and sequences of development that most individuals experience. This approach focuses on universal stages, milestones, and commonalities across people.
What is Idographic?
Idiographic development focuses on the unique aspects of an individual’s development. This approach highlights personal, subjective, and distinctive experiences that contribute to one’s growth.
Example Normative development?
Understanding that most children start walking around 12 months is an example of normative development. This provides a benchmark against which individual development can be compared.
