Crimes that are technically against the law but which most people in society do not disapprove of. These norman crimes were a result of the introduction of Forest laws.🌲🌳🌲

Examples: Poaching, carrying hunting weapons, cutting down trees, ownership of dogs for those living in forests.🐕🌲

What is the murdrum fine

A

If a norman was killed and they cant find the murderer all the people of that region had to join together and pay an expensive murdrum fine. This was supposed to stop the increase in revenge murders that took place after Norman invasion and make it less likely that people would cover up the crime of a neighbour

  • the two people would fight using swords or sometimes large sticks🎋(option for more wealthy people).
  • the accused fought the accuser until one was killed or unable to carry on
  • loser was then hanged as god had judged him guilty👹😇

What is church courts

A

The norman introduced church courts. These were separate courts used for churchmen and presided over by a local bishop. Church courts dealt with more moral crimes and never sentenced people to death.

What is a feudal system📜

A

The normans introduced the feudal system. In this system only the king was free to do as he wanted and everyone else owned money or service to the class above them. Serfs were now legally bound to work for their lord and were not allowed to leave their village. Running away became a crime
