Normal Saline Flashcards
0.9% sodium chloride ( normal pregnancy class)
C
What is the concentration and the class of normal saline?
9.9% sodium chloride, isotonic crystalloid solution
adverse reactions / side effects are common when giving 0.9% sodium chloride ( normal saline)
False
0.9% sodium chloride (normal saline) neonates dose and route
The specific situation being treated will dictate the rate at which
normal saline will be administered. In severe heatstroke, diabetic
ketoacidosis, and freshwater drowning, it is likely that you will be
called on to administer the fluid quite rapidly. In other cases, it is
advisable to administer the fluid at a moderate rate (for example, 100
mL/h). Neonates: Fluid bolus: 10 mL/kg IV given over 5 to 10
minutes; multiple boluses may be administered if the patient remains
clinically hypovolemic. In a neonate, a 10-mL/kg normal saline bolus
may aid in improved perfusion and clearance of acid.
What are the indications of administering 0.9% sodium chloride?
Heat related problems (heat exhaustion, heatstroke), freshwater drowning, hypovolemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, keep open IV
0.9% Sodium chloride ( normal saline) adverse reactions / side effects
rare in therapeutic dosages
0.9% sodium chloride adult dose
