Normal Radiology Flashcards
1
Q
What is the Epiphysis?
A
no periosteum subchondral bone
2
Q
What is the Physis?
A
- Growth plate b/w epiphysis and metaphysis - radiolucent
3
Q
What is the metaphysis?
A
- flared area beneath growth plate (physis) - trabeculae visible along lines of stress
4
Q
What is the Diaphysis?
A
- long bone - combined thickness of 2 opposing cortices = width of medullary cavity
5
Q
What is the endosteal surface?
A
- transition zone b/w cortex and medulla
6
Q
What is the Apophysis?
A
- Protuberance usually at the site of the metaphysis - irregular surface: trochanter, tuberosity, tubercles
7
Q
What is the periosteum?
A
- cover diaphysis and some of metaphysis but not epiphysis - not visible radio - if visible radiographically = new bone formation = potential disease
8
Q
What is Enthesis?
A
- tendon/ligament attachment sites - radio signs occur here that can indicate arthopathy and hyperparathryoidism
9
Q
What intra-articular details require MRI or computer tomogrpahy?
A
- menisci
- articular cartilage
- labrum
- syovium
10
Q
What is the vacuum phenomenon?
A
- radiolucent line between the joint space
