Q

Explain the engine starting procedure:

A
  1. CWP - CHECK GOV light out
  2. [FUEL PUMP] - ON
  3. [A/COL LT] - ON
  4. Cyclic control - HAND ON
    After 30 sec:
  5. Engine starting selector - ON position
  6. Engine parameters - CHECK:
    - Ng increases
    - T4 remains below its limits
    - Rotor turns at Ng <= 25%
    - Engine oil pressure increases
    When Ng >= 67%
  7. CWP - CHECK: SERVO, ENG P, HYD1, HYD2, MGB P lights go out
  8. [PITOT] - ON and PITOT light out
  9. [FUEL P] - OFF, check FUEL P light out
  10. Engine starting selector guard - SET
  11. All necessary systems - ON - TESTED
    At Ng > 60 % the VEMD upper screen automatically switches to FLI display

  2. Twist grip - FLIGHT position
    When Nr >= 340 rpm
  3. [HORN] - ON, HORN light out, CHECK audio warning OFF for Nr > 360 rpm
  4. Nr indication - CHECK in lower normal operating range

Q

Explain the cranking procedure:

A

Can be performed after a failed or aborted start and can be used for check or maintenance purposes
1. Engine starting selector - OFF
2. Emergency fuel shut-off lever - Forward
3. Ng - CHECK <= 10%
4. [FUEL PUMP] - ON
5. [CRANK] - PRESS for 20 sec. max
6. [FUEL PUMP] - OFF
DO not crank the engine with the emergency fuel shutoff valve closed or with the fuel pump off as this could damage the engine high pressure fuel pump

Q

Explain the before takeoff checks:

A
  1. Doors - Closed
  2. Collective, cyclic friction locks - as required
  3. Landing light - AS REQUIRED
  4. Temperature and pressures - NORMAL RANGE
  5. CWP - ALL lights OFF
  6. Collective - UNLOCKED
  7. Heating, demisting - AS REQUIRED
    Adjust collective and cyclic friction locks so that friction loads are felt by the pilot when moving the flight controls
