Normal Procedures Flashcards
Explain the procedure for an engine prestart check:
Seats and control pedals - ADJUSTED and LOCK
Seat belts - FASTEN
NOTE: Copilot seat belts shall be fastened in all cases
1. Rotor brake - RELEASE, fully forward
2. FFCL - OFF detent
3. Fuel shut-off lever - FORWARD check lock wired
4. Hydraulic cut-off switch (collective) - ON
5. [BATT][GENE] - ON
6. Instrument lighting system - As required
7. ICS - ON
8. [COM1/COM2] - ON
9. Electrical mirror - SET
10. [ACCU TST] - ON for 2 sec. than OFF
11. [W/LT TST] - PERFORM
12. CWP lights - CHECK
w/ battery power: GENE, PITOT, ENG P, FUEL P, HORN, MGB P, HYDR
w/ EPU power: same + BATT
13. VEMD - CHECK
-3-data page: No message
- Vehicle page: No message
- Battery voltage > 22 V
- Check fuel quantity
- Check bleed valve open
14. Pedals - CHECK free travel, then neutral
15. Cyclic - CENTER, friction adjusted
16. Collective - LOCK, friction adjusted
17. Heating, demisting - OFF
Explain the engine starting procedure:
- FUEL PUMP - ON
- [A/COL] - ON
- After 30 sec - Cyclic control - HAND ON
- Starting pushbutton - PRESS
- FFCL - FORWARD around 1/3 of its travel when Ng reaches 10%
- Engine parameters - CHECK:
- Ng increases
- T4 remains below its limits
- Rotor turning at Ng >= 25%
- Engine oil pressure increases - Starting pushbutton - RELEASE at 40% < Ng < 45%
- FFCL - Adjust to 67% <= Ng <= 70%
- CWP - CHECK: ENG P, MGB P and HYDR lights are out
- [PITOT] - ON (light out)
- If EPU used: - EPU - Disconnect, make sure EPU door is closed and locked
- CWP - CHECK: GENE and BATT lights out
When should the FFCL be opened at the same time the start pushbutton is pressed?
Open the fuel flow control at the same time the start pushbutton is pressed when OAT < 0C
What is the procedure if a start must be aborted?
- FFCL - OFF
- [FUEL PUMP]s - OFF
[GENE] - OFF
When does the VEMD upper screen switch to the FLI display during start?
At Ng > 60%
Explain the procedure for the run-up check:
- All necessary systems - ON - TEST
- Hydraulic checks - Accumulator checks and Hydraulic pressure isolation check
- When minimum engine oil temperature is reached: - FFCL - FLIGHT detent, maintaining a constant rate of rotor acceleration
NOTE: Do not allow Nr value to remain steady between 300 and 320 rpm during engine acceleration
- When Nr >= 340 rpm: - [HORN] - ON, HORN light goes out
CHECK audio warning:
- ON for Nr <= 360 rpm
- OFF for Nr > 360 rpm - Nr indication - CHECK in lower normal operating range
- [FIRE/TST] - PERFORM, check ENG FIRE + gong sounds
- Parameters check - No warning light illuminated, Electrical system voltage and current, Engine oil pressure
How do you carry out an accumulator check?
- Collective - CHECK correctly locked
- [ACCU TST] - ON
- CWP - CHECK HYDR flashes
- Collective and Cyclic controls - HANDS ON
- Move the cyclic control 2 to 3 times on each axis (+/- 10%) and check for accumulator hydraulic assistance on pitch and roll (no control loads). Check that forces are felt on the pedals
- [ACCU TST] - reset to OFF position
- CWP - CHECK HYDR light out
How do you perform a hydraulic pressure isolation check?
- Collective - CHECK correctly locked
- Hydraulic cut-off switch - SET to OFF
- CWP - CHECK HYDR light is on
- Check that loads are immediately felt and that the cyclic can be moved in pitch and roll with normal feedback loads. Yaw pedals loads should stay low (yaw load compensator effect)
- Hydraulic cut-off switch - SET to ON
- CWP - CHECK HYDR light extinguishes in 3 to 4 sec.
* Maintenance action must be performed prior to flight if this time is reduced to 1 sec. or greater than 4 sec. (at least one of the accumulators is faulty)
What is the cranking procedure after an aborted start or for check or maintenance purposes?
- FFCL - OFF
- Emergency fuel shut-off lever - FORWARD
- NG - CHECK <= 10%
- [FUEL PUMP]s - ON
- [CRANK] - PRESS IN for 30 sec. max.
- [CRANK] - RELEASE
- [FUEL PUMP] (both) - OFF
Explain the before takeoff checks:
- Doors - CLOSED or sliding doors OPEN LOCKED
- Cyclic and collective frictions - AS REQUIRED
- Landing light - AS REQUIRED
- Temperatures and pressures - NORMAL RANGE
- CWP - All lights OFF
- Collective - UNLOCKED
- Heating, demisting - AS REQUIRED
NOTE: Adjust collective and cyclic frictions so that friction loads are felt by the pilot when moving the flight controls
What is the Vy?
IAS kts = 55 - 1 kt/1000 ft
Explain the approach checks:
- Landing light - AS REQUIRED
- All parameters - CHECK
- Heating, demisting - AS REQUIRED
Explain the procedure for engine and rotor shut down:
- Cyclic stick - NEUTRAL
- Collective pitch - LOCK
- FFCL - Set 67% <= Ng <= 70%
- Engine cool down - WAIT for 30 sec.
- [PITOT] [HORN], landing light - OFF
- FFCL - OFF detent
- [FUEL PUMP]s - OFF
- [GENE] - OFF
- Rotor brake - APPLY
- [ACCU TST] - ON for 2 sec. then OFF, re-centralize pedals if necessary
- [A/COL] - OFF
BEFORE LEAVING HELICOPTER - VEMD - CHECK for flight report page
- Operating time (counted from Ng > 60% after start, to Ng < 50%)
- Ng and Nf cycles: check written in white characters and above 0
- Advisory messages: FAILURE DETECTED or OVERLIMIT DETECTED - [BATT] - OFF
What does the fuel gauge tell you?
When the fuel quantity says Zero, how much usable fuel is left?
0
