Normal physiology 5 - Circulation Flashcards
how many pulmonary veins return oxygenated blood to the heart?
4
what two main vessels distribute the de-oxygenated blood to the heart?
inferior and superior vena cava
why do we need bronchial circulation (3)
- nutrition of bronchial tree
- maintenance of temperature and humidity of the airway wall and lining fluid layer
- provides blood elements (white celles) for inflammation and repair
where does the bronchial de-oxygenated blood goes?
In the left atrium, with OXYgenated blood, creating a shunt
Who supplies the bronchial tissues?
Bronchia arteries, arising from the aorta (systemic circulation)
difference between pulmonary arteries and systemic circulation (other arteries) ?
The pulmonary arteries have very thin walls -
why pulmonary arterial pressures are relatively low
Systemic blood flow is actively directed to various organs; this may require high pressure
The lung rarely directs blood from one region to another; therefore the arterial pressure is just high enough to lift blood to the top of the lung
formula for resistance
R = pressure gradient / flow
