Indications
Severe hypotension due to cardiogenic, septic or neurogenic shock either refractory to intravascular fluids or in which fluid boluses are contraindicated

Effects
vasoconstriction –> increase vascular resistance –> increase BP

Dose/Route
IV drip at 2-4 mcg/min titrated to adequate BP.
Usual mix in D5W 4 mg/250 mL

Side Effects
Hypertension –> stroke
Increased myocardial O2 demand –> ischemia/AMI

Notes on Administration
Previously only used for interfacility transport. Added as an alternate option for Dopamine HCL (infusion pump required)
