Mechanism of Action
Stimulates alpha, beta 1, and beta 2 receptor sites

Effects
alpha– vasoconstriction –> increase BP
beta 1– increase HR, increase FOC, increase CV
beta 2– smooth muscle relaxation –> bronchodilation

Dose/Route
Cardiac arrest: 1 mg q 3-5 min 1:10,000 IV
Severe bronchospasm, Anaphylaxis: 0.3-0.5 mg of 1:1000 solution IM may repeat every 15 to 20 minutes; or 1:10,000 solution and give 0.1 mg every 5 minutes IV/IO
Bradycardia, Hypotension: 1 mg in 250 mL of NS 2-10 mcg/min titrated to desired hemodynamic response
Croup: 3 mg 1:1000 mixed in 3 mL NS via SVN

Side Effects
Hypertension –> stroke –> afterload
Increased myocardial O2 demand –> ischemia/ AMI Tachydysrhythmias

Notes on Administration
Never give with Bicarb.
May not be effective in Acidosis or Hypothermia.
