A

Docosanol
Antiviral - shortening the time to heal (HSV 1)
Raised fluid filled lesions, forming a light or yellow crust over the lesions (2 weeks)
Cold sore or fever blisters on face or lips
Apply to affected area or face or lips at the first sign of cold sore/fever blister. Use 5 times a day until healed.
MAXIMUM: 10 days

CI: MI, HTN, stroke, HF (fluuid retention/edema), kidney
MAX: 10 (pain), 3 days (fever)

Ask pt: concurrent blood thinner, asthma or ulcer disease, intense or prolonged pain, d/c if rash or difficulty breathing

Topical analgesic - RA, OA, shingles, diabetic neuropathy

Apply to affected area 3 to 4 times a day.

Wash hands following application or use disposable latax glove. Transient burning may occur upon application but should disappear in several days.
May take up to 2 weeks for an effect.
