How would you counsel someone about ECG?
1) Affects on short term memory - existing memory can get worse
2) Muscle soreness from muscle relaxants or seizure
3) Irregular HR and rhythm, rise in BP followed by a slowing.
4) Sometimes stroke or HA can occur
5) Must fast from the night before, dress in loose comfortable clothing and ensure hair is clean/dry. DO NOT take sleeping tablets, can interfere with process.
6) Go to the toilet beforehand.
7) Cannot leave hospital for 2 hours afterwards on the wards.
8) Common:
a. n/v
b. Headache
c. Pain/bruising
d. Soreness or dry throat
e. Blurred or double vision

1) that cognitions control feelings and behaviours
2) that behaviours affect thought patterns
Outline the general treatment structure of CBT
- Acute treatment is 12-20 weekly sessions followed by 3-6months of booster sessions.

○ Challenging dysfunctional thoughts
What is family based therapy and what specifically is it used in?
Family based therapy
- Emphasizes family relationships as important factors in psychological health. - Found particularly useful in AN.
What is IPT?
IPT - interpersonal psychotherapy
- Treatment for depression. Connection between onset of symptoms and current interpersonal problems. - 12-16weekly sessions.
