Q

phagocytosis stages

A

pathogen produce chemicals that attract phagocytes

phagocyte recognise non self proteins on the pathogen antigens and binds to it.

phagocyte engulfs pathogen and encloses it in a vacuole called phagosome.

phagosome combines with lysosome form phagolysosome.

enzymes in lysosome digest and destroy the pathogen.

Q

macrophages and engulfing.

A

they engulf pathogens digest um partially leave antigens intact.

antigens placed on outside of cell surface membrane.

Q

opsonins are

A

chemicals that bind to pathogens and tag them so they can be more easily recognised.

phagocytes have cell receptors that bind to common opsonins.
