A
- deep breath glottis closes, then air from lungs is forced against the glottis which suddenly opens, causing a blast of air to rush upwards
- clears lower respiratory tract

A
- uvula depressed to direct air through the nasal cavity
- clears upper respiratory tract

Hiccups
A
-sudden inspiration caused by spasms of the diaphragm

A
- very deep inspiration
- taken with the jaw wide open
- inflates/ventilates all alveoli
