Transdermal Patch
A
- A combined hormone contraceptive
- Available as Ortho Evra (35mg ethinyl estradiol and 150mcg or 200mcg norelgestromin - active form of norgestimate) daily x 21 days, then followed by patch-free week
- May experience withdrawal bleeding during patch-free week
- CON = higher exposure to estrogen over time
- Not very effective in obese patients (over 198 lbs/90 kg)

Vaginal Ring
A
- Available as NuvaRing (15mcg ethinyl estradiol and 120mch etonogesterel) dayil x 21 days, followed by ring-free week
- PRO = Less estrogen exposure, so less estrogen-related side effects

Depot Injection
A
- Available as Depo-subQ Provera [104mg/0.65ml] or Depo-Provera (IM) [150mg/ml]
- Contains medroxyprogesterone acetate (progestin-only)
- Given every 3 months
- CONS = Initially more unpredictable spotting/breakthrough bleeding, weight gain, takes time to get pregnant after stopping, decrease bone density
- PROS = After 1 year, ammenorhea
