Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)
A
Technique where positive pressure is applied to the airways and lungs without the need for an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube.
Aim is to improve gas exchange by assisting inspiratory efforts and reducing the WOB.

Ventilator systems
A
Volume-preset: deliver fixed Vt.
Pressure-preset: include bilevel positive pressure devices (BiPAP). Easier to tolerate than volume-preset.
