What does the term Non-Gonococcal Urethritis mean?
A
Urethritis that is not caused by Gonorrhoea

What is the typical presentation of Non-gonococcal urethritis?
A
- Purulent urethral discharge and dysuria

What is found on microscopy of the swab?
A
Neutrophils but no gram negative diplococci (i.e. no gonorrhoea)

What are the 2 causes of Non-gonococcal urethritis?
A
- Chlamydia trachomatis - most common cause
- Mycoplasma genitalium - thought to cause more symptoms than Chlamydia

What is the management of Non-gonococcal urethritis?
A
- Contact tracing
- oral azithromycin or doxycycline
