What is non barbiturate?
A
They are a class of sedative or sleep inducing drugs which are not derived from barbituric acid or it’s derivatives.

Discuss the pharmacology of a named non barbiturate
A
PARALDEHYDE
Trade name:Paral
Class: Non barbiturate, sedative and hypnotic.
Moa: Similar to phenobarbital,it is a bitter fasting liquid and has a strong unpleasant odour,in usual doses it has no effect on respiration and BP.
Therapeutic uses: Sedation and hypnosis,emergency treatment of seizure and delirium tremors.
Contraindications: Bronchopulmonary disease,hepatic insufficiency,gastroenteritis.
Side effects: Skin rash,pain at the side of injection and Bradycardia.
