What is anatomy?
the study of the structure of the body
What is physiology?
the study of the functions of the body.

breathing.
what is phonation?
voicing or making sounds in the vocal folds/larynx.
what is articulation?
moving the mouth, speaking, and modifying the airflow.
what is mastication & deglutition?
chewing and swallowing.
what is neuroanatomy?
anatomy or structures of the brain.
what is audition?
hearing.
what is an impairment?
an impairment is an absence of or significant difference in a person’s body structure or function or mental functioning.
what is a structural impairment?
structural impairments are significant problems with an internal or external component of the body (ex: cleft palate: a hole in the palate)
what is a function impairment?
function impairments include the complete or partial loss of function of a body part. (ex: speech/sound disorder or feeding disorder due to cleft palate)
missing adult teeth, and having a right-side aortic arch are examples of what kind of variation?
normal variation.

atypical (unusual) variations (still functional).
