Q

steps in naming molecules ?

A
  1. find the longest continuous chain of carbons
    - if there us a functional group then it must be the longest chain containing the functional group
  2. number the chain from the end that gives the functional groups lowest number
  3. put the groups on the chain in the name
    - noting that the functional groups that are prefix’s are listed in alphabetical order when named
  4. if there are more than 1 identical functional group or side chain put di-(2), tri-(3) or tetra-(4)
