Noise Production Flashcards
1
Q
What are the different types of noise productions?
A
- Voiceless velar plosive
- Voiceless alveolar plosive
- Bilabial
- Labiodental
- Dental
- Alveolar
6.Palato alveolar - Palatal
- Velars
- Glottals
- Plosives
- Fricative
- Affricate
- Nasal
- Laterals
2
Q
What are bilabial sounds?
A
- Sounds formed using both lips
- E.g. pig, milk, big
3
Q
What are labiodental sounds?
A
- Sounds formed using the lower lip and upper teeth
- E.g. four, vase
4
Q
What are dental sounds?
A
- Sounds formed by placing the tip of the tongue behind the upper front teeth or between the teeth
- E.g. thin, teeth, there
5
Q
What are alveolar sounds?
A
- Sounds formed by placing the tip of the tongue on the alveolar ridge just behind the upper teeth
- E.g. tin, sin, nip, din, zip, lip
6
Q
What are palato-alveolar sounds?
A
- Sounds formed by placing the tongue at the front of the hard palate near the alveolar ridge
- E.g. shin, pleasure, chips, chin
7
Q
What are palatal sounds?
A
- Sounds formed by putting the tongue against the middle of the palate
- E.g. you, yet
8
Q
What are velar sounds?
A
- Sounds formed using the soft palate and the tongue
- E.g. Kick, car, sing, tongue, get
9
Q
What are glottal stops?
A
- 2 sounds that can be produced without using the tongue or other articulators
- E.g. high, horse
10
Q
What are plosives sounds?
A
- Sounds produced by stopping the airstream
- E.g. p, b, t, d, k, g
11
Q
What are fricative sounds?
A
- Sounds produced by a partial blockage of the airstream, resulting in friction as the air is forced through the small gap
- E.g. f, v
12
Q
What are affricate sounds?
A
- Sounds produced by combining a brief blockage of the airstream with an obstructed release which causes some friction
- E.g. church, judge
13
Q
What are nasal sounds?
A
- Sounds produced when the soft palate is lowered and the airstream is forced into the nasal cavity
- E.g. m, n
14
Q
What are lateral sounds?
A
- Formed because of the passage of air through the mouth along the sides of the tongue rather than the along the centre
- E.g. leg, log, meal, till
