Occurs as a solitary solid or cystic neoplasm
Age of occurrence
Gender
4th to 8th decades of life
Female to male 2:1
Prognosis
Recurrence, malignant transformation in metastatic spread have all been described in this tumor
Origin of nodular hidradenoma
Rare benign sweat gland tumor
Clinical appearance
Usually small, solitary, nodular, superficial dermal lesion with intact overlying skin
May also have ulceration or serous fluid leakage
Where is this located
On the body primarily head, neck, torso
Histological within the dermis
Malignancy
Malignant transformation has been sporadically reported in the literature
Characteristics of malignancy
overt nuclear atypia Abnormal mitosis Infiltrated patterns Lymphatic or perineural invasion Necrosis
IHC markers
Nodular hidradenoma AE1/AE3 EMA CEA Malignant hidradenoma PHH3 >0.7% Ki – 67 > 11%
Risk of recurrence
Risk of recurrence is reported as common up to 10%
Management
High recurrence rate and potential malignancy of this tumor highlight the need for adequate treatment, complete excision of noular hidradrenoma with wide margins helps to prevent recurrence
