Amoss sign
Patient gets off a bench, pain from side lying posture.
Thoracic or lumbar pathology
Adam’s Postion
Patient bends forward, analyze A and P.
Scoliosis doesn’t change = positive and structural scoliosis
Does change = Functional scoliosis
Beevor’s Sign
Crunch like sit up
Bellybutton towards head - lower thoracic involvement
drifts downward - upper thoracic involvement
Chest expansion test
inhale deeply measure expansion
Should measure between 1.5 to 3 inches
w/o trauma indicates ankylosing spondylitis
Forestier Bowstring
arms at sides laterally flex trunk, muscle contraction on ips. side is positive.
poor intersegmental motion
Rib motion test
Palpate rib cage during inspiration and expiration.
Dec. motion indicates thoracic or rib Sx.
Schepelmann’s Sign
Arms up bend side to side
pain on concave side - intercostal neuralgia
convex side - myalgia
localized T or rib Sx.
