Q

What is TMS?

A

Tetramethylsilane - all NMR spectra are standardised relative to TMS which is defined as having a chemical shift

Q

What is Deuterated solvents used for and why?

A

Undesirable to have peaks from solvent appear in NMR spectrum and are used as the peak doesn’t appear in NMR

Q

How do you identify OH and NH bonds?

A

Add D2O to sample causing OH and NH groups to be replaced by deuterium atoms so they disappear
