Q

Why is TMS (si) used

A
  • it only gives one signal which is further away from all other H signals
  • it gives a strong signal so only a small amount needed
  • it is non toxic
  • it is inert
  • low boiling point so can be removed from sample easily

Q

What does the integration number tell you

A

Add them all up
That will tell you the total number of hydrogens in your molecule

Q

What is the rule for the splitting pattern

A

Tells you how many hydrogens attached to the adjacent carbon
- singlet = 0
- doublet = 1
- Triplet = 2
- Quartet = 3
