- Vasodilator
- Nitrate

A
- Smooth muscle relaxant acting on vasculature, bronchial, uterine, and intesetinal smooth muscle
- Dialation of arterioles & veins in the periphery, reduces preload & afterload
- Decreases workload of the heart = decreases mycardial O2 demand

Indication
A
- Ischemic Chest pain
- Pulmonary Edema
- CHF
- Acute and Symptomatic hypertension

Contraindication
A
- Hypovolemia
- Instracranial bleeding/Head Injury
- Hypotension, SBP <100mmHg
- ED meds within 48 hours
- Right sided mycardial infarction

Adverse Reaction/Side Effects
A
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Syncope/Weakness
- Dry Mouth
- Hypotention
- Reflex Tacycardia
- Flushing/Diaphoresis
- Nausea/Vomiting
- Muscle Twitching
- Hypersensitivity

Dosage/Administration
A
- Tablet/Sublingual: 0.4mg, repeat every 3-5 minutes (max 3 doses)
- CHF/Pulomonary Edema: 0.4mg-1.2mg (SL) repeat every 5 minutes as long as patient’s SBP remains stable

A
Onset: 1-3 min
Peak: 5-10 min
Duration: 20-30min (1-10min after IV infusion)
