Q

What is denitrification?

A

Denitrification is the process by which nitrates (NO₃⁻) are reduced to produce nitrogen gas (N₂), which is then released into the atmosphere. This anaerobic process is carried out by bacteria such as Pseudomonas and Clostridium. It typically occurs in waterlogged soils or aquatic environments where oxygen is limited.
