Nitric Oxide & Related Drugs; L6 (9-30-15) Flashcards
1
Q
~Nitric Oxide (INOMAX)
A
- MOA: covalent modification of proteins
- ROA: inhalation
- Indications: ACS (acute coronary syndrome)
- Side-effects: vasodilation
2
Q
Nitroglycerin
A
- MOA: NO donor (DILATION OF VEINS and ^ venous capacitance)
- ROA: sublingual
- Indications: pulmonary arterial hypertension (+ ANGINA; congestive heart failure; control of HTN)
- Side-effects: hypotension
3
Q
Hydralazine
A
- MOA: NO donor, vasodilator (arteriolar vasodilation)
- ROA: oral
- Indications: HTN
- Side-effects: headache, nausea, vomiting, hypotension
4
Q
Sildenafil (Viagra)
A
- MOA: phosphodiesterase inhibitor (VASCULAR SMOOTH MUSCLE RELAXATION)
- ROA: oral
- Indications: (PULMONARY ARTERIAL) hypertension; (ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION)
- Side-effects: hypotension, drug interactions (CANNOT be taken with nitroglycerin–potentiates VASODILATION and HYPOTENSION by activation of guanylate cyclase and huge increase in cGMP!)

Q
~L-Arginine
A
- MOA: NO donor
- ROA: oral
- Indications: ACS (acute coronary syndrome), vascular disease
- Side-effects: hypotension
