Command
Act of directing, ordering, and/or controlling resources by virtue of explicit legal, agency, or delegated authority; also denotes the organizational level that is in command (Incident Commander) of the incident.
Command Staff
Incident management personnel who report directly to the incident commander; includes the public information officer, safety officer, and liaison officer.
General Staff
Incident management personnel who represent the major functional Sections.
Section
Organizational level having responsibility for a major functional area of incident management includes:
Operations, Planning, Logistics, Finance/Administration, Information and Intelligence
Branch
Functional/Geographic responsibility for major segments of incident operations. Between Section and Division/Group. Identified by roman numeral.
Division
Operates in defined geographic area.
Group
Equal to Division, responsible for a functional assignment without regard to geographical area. Available for reassignment
Unit
Fulfills specific support functions:
resources, documentation, demobilization, and situation units with planning section.
Crew
Specified Number of Personnel assembled for an assignment
Single Resources
Individual apparatus and personnel required to make them functional
Task Force
Combination of resources assembled for a specific mission. Upon completion of task it is disbanded.
Strike Team
Resources of the same type remain together throughout an incident.
