Time between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight.

1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise.
How does Night Vision work?
Scotopic Vision: Uses our rods and Rhodopsion
What is Rhodopsion?
Protein in our eyes for night vision
Night Disorientation and illusions
Reversible Perspective: Plane flying towards you appears to be flying away
Size and Distance: Differences in illumination may cause you to perceive a size/distance difference
Flicker Vertigo: Light flickering at 4-20 cycles can cause vertigo
Empty Field Myopia: With nothing to focus on, the eyes automatically focus on a point just slightly ahead of the airplane (find a light to look at)
