A

Continent of Africa and is just North of the equator in the Northern Hemisphere.
It’s on the coastline of the North Atlantic Coast (West)
Capital is Lagos
It’s important for trade and is not landlocked

Social context of Nigeria

A
  • formed in the 20th century under British rule.
  • it was c on promises of smaller tribal kingdoms
  • 500 different ethnic groups with own language
  • 3 ethnic groups dominate: IGBO, YORUBA, HAUSA - south is predominantly Christian, north is Muslim.
    -source of conflict despite great strength
  • urbanisation led to rural to urban migration.

Political context

A

-independence in 1960
-progressed from civil war through several military dictatorships to as stable democracy.

-North of Nigeria, Boko Harem, an extremist organisation want to demolish democracy and make own government under Islamic law (sharla)
-17000 people killed. Since 2002 people fled
-Ebola outbreak in 2013 - killed over 11000 people
-8 people died in Nigeria to contain the disease with good healthcare and planning

  • more natural vegetation is replaced by agricultural
