Nicotinic Drugs Flashcards

1

Q

Succinylcholine

A
nicotinic agonist (depolarizing blockade)
- intensely increases activation at nicotinic receptors--> muscle fasiculations (twitch) then desensitize= paralysis

use: ST paralysis–> intubation

Q

side effects of succinylcholine

A
  1. bradycardia (M2)
  2. K+ release (from prolonged depolarization)
  3. prolonged paralysis if genetic variants of pseudocholinesterase
  4. malignant hypothermia
